Overview

We are on the lookout for a detail-oriented and motivated General Accountant to join our Finance team based in Ireland. This role will be responsible for supporting accurate financial reporting, general ledger accounting, statutory compliance, and local tax/VAT reporting. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in accounting principles, experience in a multinational environment, and is comfortable working across teams and jurisdictions.

We are a life sciences company focused on the development, production and commercialization of high-value consumable products used in the process of manufacturing biological drugs.

 

Based in our Waterford site and reporting to the Senior Accountant you will be part of an EU cross functional Finance Team of highly motivated and collaborative colleagues. 

Responsibilities

As the accountant you will  

  • Perform month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with local GAAP and group accounting policies.
  • Prepare monthly management reports, variance analysis, and supporting schedules.
  • Assist in the preparation and filing of VAT, Intrastat, and other regulatory tax returns for Ireland and potentially other EMEA countries.
  • Support payroll accounting and related reconciliations.
  • Liaise with external auditors and support the annual statutory audit and financial statement preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and SOX.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to finance processes and ERP system usage.
  • Collaborate with other departments and finance teams across Europe to ensure consistency and accuracy in reporting.
  • Assist with ad hoc financial analysis, reporting, and special projects as required.

Qualifications

The successful accountant will be backed-up by the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Part-qualified or fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent).
  • 2–4 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a multinational or shared services environment.
  • Strong understanding of VAT regulations and accounting principles.
  • Experience working with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, etc.); SAP S/4HANA experience is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Self-starter with a proactive approach to process improvement.
