Overview

 

The Facilities technician will be working as part of the facilities team and reports directly to the Facilities Manager. You will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and ensuring the optimal performance of various types of equipment used in Repligen Waterford. This role requires a blend of technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and hands-on ability to work with complex machinery, systems and other teams. You are a key contributor to the overall site utility operations, maintenance, planning and energy management systems.

By fulfilling these responsibilities, an Equipment Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring that equipment operates efficiently and reliably, contributing to the overall productivity and safety of the workplace and its employees, contractors and visitors.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintenance and Repair:
  • Perform regular PM & CAL’s on equipment to ensure optimal functioning.
  • Diagnose and ensure repair of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components of machinery in line with EHS guidelines.
  • Respond to emergency repair requests in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
  • Where required maintaining injection Molds in the company, compiling standard specifications /procedures for each mold, and monitoring all existing molds to standard specifications.
  1. Installation and Setup:
  • Assist in the installation and setup of new equipment, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications and EU safety standards.
  • Calibrate and test new machinery to guarantee proper operation.
  • Required to take a lead role in the build or upgrade of equipment.
  • Provide technical leadership on equipment build related issues.
  1. Troubleshooting:
  • Identify and diagnose issues using technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools
  • Develop and implement solutions to resolve equipment malfunctions efficiently.
  1. Documentation:
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repair work, including parts used and time spent on each task.
  • Prepare reports on equipment performance and suggest improvements.
  • Ensure short, medium and long term plans are in place for all classes of utilities in pursuit of excellence in availability, maintenance cost and energy utilisation.
  • Ensure cGMP compliance is paramount in all maintenance activities and systems and that Facilities Engineering processes / systems are audit ready at all times.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of all service and preventative maintenance logs.
  • Record all PM and WO completion and associated Maintenance Man Hours into CMMS within scheduled time.
  1. Safety and Compliance:
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Ensure that all equipment complies with relevant safety regulations and standards.
  • Work with and ensure all contractors are operating within H&S regulations.
  • Ensure safe Access and Egress to premises.
  • Implement and maintain lock out tag out practices.
  • Participate in and champion all EH&S initiatives.
  1. Inventory Management:
  • Monitor and manage spare parts inventory to ensure availability when needed.
  • Order and replenish parts as required to maintain adequate stock levels.
  1. Training and Support:
  • Train and support other technicians or staff in the proper use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to operators and end-users
  • Work closely with design and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure that the equipment is built according to specifications and is properly handed over to commissioning or manufacturing.
  • Works with the Process Engineers in troubleshooting mold problems.
  • Liaise directly with suppliers for technical support and the continuous maintenance and service of equipment.
  1. Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in equipment technology and maintenance techniques.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives including RCCMs & Kaizen projects when required to enhance equipment performance and reliability.
  • Attends internal meetings to help establish priorities and assign tasks.
  • Participate and contribute to site energy (gas, electricity & water) to ensure continuous improvement in energy use and reduction through continuous improvement.

Qualifications

 

  1. Education:
  • An associate degree or technical diploma in mechanical engineering, electronics, industrial maintenance, or a related field. A bachelor's degree is preferred for more advanced roles.
  1. Experience:
  • Proven experience as an equipment technician or similar role.
  • Experience in Mold Maintenance and experience of supporting a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  1. Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  1. Soft Skills:
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  1. Certifications:
  • Certifications relevant to the specific industry or equipment type (e.g., Certified maintenance and Reliability Technician, OSHA safety certification) are beneficial.
  1. Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment.
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.
  1. Work Environment:
  • The role may involve working in confined spaces, at heights, or under various environmental conditions.

Technicians may need to be on call for emergency repairs and may work irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
